Raffaele Giovine. - Lot 617
Raffaele Giovine. Exceptional pair of spindle vases in porcelain of Paris. Decorated in Naples by Giovine and his workshops, with two royal portraits in medallion on a "sfumato" background. The first one shows the Queen of the Two Sicilies, Marie-Isabelle de Bourbon, wearing the order of the Starry Cross on her left shoulder and wearing a diadem. The second with the portrait of a young man wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece and the scarf of the Order of Charles III. At the back, on a pale blue field, four vignettes, one of which is decorated with musical attributes and the other with a composition with military attributes. Gold and white background with motifs of griffins, baskets, palmettes and scrolls. A crooked handle resting on a finely chiselled and gilded bronze mascaron. Each vase signed Giovine and dated 1822. Terrace of black marble. Height : 60 cm. Note: According to the literature on the subject, these porcelain pieces were made for the Court of Naples in the years 1820-1825, by royal commission from Raffaele Giovine and his workshop from "whites" imported from France, including Nast in Paris, and were offered as gifts to members of the royal family and their relatives.
